Stanthorpe is about 3 hours from Brisbane or Surfers Paradise. The mountains are about 1000 metres high. So we are often the coldest town in Queensland, which many people do not realise. Cold in Queensland? is a very normal statement. In the winter of 2002, there were some parts of the area that went to minus 16 C.
Thunderbolt Farm is very well situated on a slope, facing north and sheltered from the cold South and West winds, so our personal winters are perfect. We love that log fire! Stanthorpe is about 40 kilometres from the New South Wales boarder, on the New England Highway, about 800 klms from Sydney. 40 minutes south of Warwick and 40 minutes north of Tenterfield. We have four seasons to enjoy, with crisp clear sky, clean air, a food basket all around, and the wine flows. All good reasons to visit us, and stay.
